feature[23] is a Jacksonville-based software product development firm that builds custom, greenfield software and platforms for clients across a range of industries. Our engineering teams work exclusively on new, ground-up builds using modern tooling, currently centered on .NET Core, C#, Angular, and Azure, rather than legacy maintenance or break-fix work. We are a senior team that values adaptability, craftsmanship, and clear communication over rigid process.
The Role
We're hiring a QA Engineer to help us catch issues before our clients do. This is a contract-to-hire position: you'll start as a 100% remote contractor on an ongoing basis (not a fixed-term engagement), with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role based on performance. Because every client, codebase, and platform we work on is different, we're less interested in experience with one particular tool chain and more interested in someone who can quickly learn a new product, a new team's workflow, and a new set of quality risks, and adapt their testing approach accordingly.
What You'll Do
- Perform manual and regression testing across multiple concurrent client projects, each with its own codebase, feature set, and release cadence.
- Read user stories and acceptance criteria to design and execute test cases that reflect real-world usage, not just the happy path.
- Track, document, and report defects clearly enough that developers can reproduce and fix them without back-and-forth.
- Work within a Kanban-based delivery workflow, picking up testing work as it becomes ready rather than waiting on fixed sprint boundaries.
- Partner directly with developers and project leads to understand scope, flag risk areas early, and confirm fixes before release.
- Adapt your testing methodology and tools to fit each client engagement, since no two platforms or teams work exactly alike.
- Build toward test automation over time as opportunities allow, even if that isn't part of your background on day one.
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience in manual and regression testing of web applications (several years preferred).
- Comfort working across multiple projects and codebases at once, with the flexibility to switch context between them.
- Strong written communication skills; you can document a bug or a test result so anyone on the team understands it immediately.
- Familiarity with Kanban or other lightweight agile workflows, and the discipline to work well in a remote, largely asynchronous environment.
- A methodical, detail-oriented mindset paired with genuine curiosity about how software breaks.
- Comfort with modern web applications; direct experience with .NET Core, C#, Angular, or Azure environments is a plus but not required.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to test automation frameworks or a demonstrated interest in learning automation.
- Experience with API testing.
- Prior experience working for an agency or consultancy supporting multiple clients simultaneously.
